Mills Reef Riesling 2008
| Vintage: 2008 Variety: Riesling Area: Hawkes Bay Winemaker: Tim Preston and Paddy Preston Alcohol: 13% Awards: BRONZE - Hawkes Bay A & P Mercedes-Benz Wine Awards 2008 Tasting Note: The Grapes for this single-vineyard wine were grown in the coastal Meeanee district of Hawkes Bay, where cooling sea breezes bring out the best in this aromatic variety. Harvest took place at ideal ripeness on 31 March at 22.6 Brix. The juice was cool tank fermented with selected yeast to emphasise the aromatic fresh fruity characters of this variety, followed by three months lees aging to enhance complexity before light fining, filtering and bottling on 12 august under screwcap closure. This fragrant, medium-dry Hawkes Bay Riesling exudes deep lemon/lime and rock melon aromas with hints of ginger spice. A smooth and silky palate carries flavours of sweet marmalade, nectarine, peach and honeyed nuances, with nice length and a clean, appetisingly crisp finish. Already delicious, it will soften with age, developing a lovely perfumed, honeyed richness.
