Vintage: 2003 Varieties: Merlot Area: Hawkes Bay Winemaker: Paddy Preston and Tim Preston Alcohol %: 12.5 Tasting Note: The grapes for this wine were hand harvested from vines (planted 1997-1998) in the company's Mere Road vineyard, in the famous Gimblett Gravels District. Primary alcohol fermentation of the juice was followed with full malolactic fermentation and aging in one and two year old oak barriques for fifteen months, with regular lees stirring for enhanced complexity. This stylish Hawke's Bay red shows plum and spice flavours with the savoury, leathery complexities of classic Merlot. Firm and ripe, with very satisfying flavour depth, it is already highly attractive and will flourish with cellaring.
