Reserve Viognier 2006
Vintage: 2006 Awards: Warren Barton's Top 100 Tasting Note: The grapes for this wine were grown in a specially selected vineyard near the coastal strip of Hawkes Bay, where the cooling influence of gentle sea breezes creates a temperate microclimate ideally suited to this variety. The grapes were harvested during early-April at ideal ripeness and received into the winery in excellent condition. The juice was tank fermented for enhanced fruit character, followed by aging in French oak barriques for two months prior to bottling in late-July. This wine is distinguished by intense distinctive aromas of spicy apricot, stonefruit and pear with subtle sweet oak complexity. Concentrated nectarine, peach and dried apricot flavours sit beautifully with generous palate weight for a smooth creamy texture and a long off-dry finish. | |
