Tasting Note:

The grapes for this delicious wine were grown in Plateau Vineyard, located in the renowned Gimblett Gravels district of Hawkes Bay, and harvested at ideal ripeness on 31st of March 2008 at 24.8 brix.

They were whole bunch pressed to optimize fruit character and reduce phenois, with the aim of yielding an elegant style wine.  The juice was then barrel fermented, with lees stirring, and then 25% treated to malolactic fermentation to add depth and weight.  Following fermentation, the wine was aged in neutral oak for 17 weeks to add complexity and texture, with bottling following on 14 August 2008 under screwcap closure.

This weighty yet elegant Hawkes Bay Viognier is mouthfilling and vibrant with intense and delightfully attractive aromas of spicy gingered apricots and peaches, enveloped with toasty butterscotch.  A creamy mouthfilling texture carried fresh apricot, stonefruit and rock melon flavours, with a sprinkling of nutmeg and vanilla.  Harmonious undeerstated oak adds depth to a lingering fruit palate, finishing soft and spicy.
